Yes, “Shout to the Lord” which was written by singer/songwriter Darlene Zschech some 13 years ago was performed by The American Idol “Final 8″. It was chosen as the closing song Wednesday night during Idol Gives Back, a music celebration raising awareness and funds to benefit various U.S. and international charities It was also reported that the American Idol version is the 5th most downloaded song of the week in iTunes USA (it was the 10th, the last time I checked).

#10: Shout to the Lord

Here are some sample lyrics:

My Shepherd, My Savior
Lord there is none like You
All of my days, I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love

The original lyrics start the song off with “My Jesus” but was replaced with “My Shepherd” for American Idol. They were asked to perform the song again with the original lyrics.

Here is what Hillsong Church said about the performances:

Response About American Idol

Hillsong Church was thrilled to see the song “Shout To The Lord” performed recently on American Idol. It received an incredible response and was the fifth most downloaded song in this week’s US itunes charts.

When the program first aired, the opening line of the song was changed removing the name of Jesus. Darlene Zschech (the writer of the song) and Hillsong Church were not asked, nor approved, of the name of Jesus being replaced.

In the following broadcast of American Idol, we were pleased to see that the song was performed again with the correct lyrics.
